this guy is FUCKING skilled
September 18, 2011 - 7:55 am
Just try searching on YouTube for “Classical Gas” from Tommy Emmanuel.
Or just search for Tommy Emmanuel.
September 18, 2011 - 8:36 am
@gort88 If I may?
Ever heard of Tommy Emmanuel, Tobias Volkamer, Harry Sacksioni….
September 18, 2011 - 9:34 am
@MultiBert07 I agree, there are many many guitarists around the world, and some are very very good. Whether or not they are better musicians than Steve Howe is up to them to prove. Until they do, I will not assume that there are better guitarists simply because there are so many of them. SOMEBODY has to be the best, and I vote for Steve Howe!
September 18, 2011 - 9:36 am
@gort88 I do not agree completely.
Indeed there are better musicians out there. Not diminishing Steve Howe.
But you should except there are others likewise or better than…
There are MANY guitarists all over the world.
E.g.: I am one.
But not half that good. (Grin.)
September 18, 2011 - 10:05 am
@JohnOakwest
I’m sorry, I didn’t catch the name of your famous world-class band.
September 18, 2011 - 10:26 am
@MultiBert07
I saw Yes live 3 times in 1970-71. I was convinced then, as I am today, that Steve Howe is the greatest guitarist of all time. The statement “there are still better guitarists out there” is purely subjective and cannot be substantiated in any way No other guitarist has so seamlessly blended so many styles into a sound so unique that, upon hearing Steve Howe, one realizes just how many guitarists are just one-style wonders at best. Steve Howe is the ultimate guitarist.
September 18, 2011 - 10:38 am
@mabon93 I adore howe, williams and bream too. The thing with people like howe is that they make clasical so much more approachable. Also, he’s much more inventive than bream…again, the nature of the beast, i guess
September 18, 2011 - 10:58 am
Taught the boy all he knows….
September 18, 2011 - 11:22 am
@EVWatson1 You should have seen (heard) him when he was young (The yes period, more or less.) Great.
But there are still better guitarists out there. Only most people haven’t heard of them.
So: just wipe your tears, listen and enjoy!
September 18, 2011 - 11:55 am
Man i have been watching this guy play now live for 30+ years…
And there are some nights he just never ceases to amaze me!
What a talent. Doesn’t have a commercial bone in his body either!
Oh he’s tried with Asia to do commercial music, but if you saw him do his solo show back in the 90′s- you know- his own compositions for acoustic are just about the best stuff he can really come up with… just amazing stuff!
And I am not taking anything away from his sounds on electric when I say that!
September 18, 2011 - 12:49 pm
The old riff he’s talking about is called ‘The Ghost Of Neither Street’ it’s from a band he was in right before Yes called BODAST. What an incredible album. Any fan of early Yes will love it!
September 18, 2011 - 1:07 pm
it must be hard to be that much of a genius
September 18, 2011 - 2:03 pm
steve howe the fuck is he so good?
September 18, 2011 - 2:15 pm
it’s not that hard
September 18, 2011 - 2:22 pm
He has that effect on so many Guitar Players.
Including Me….I just can’t get my fingers to move that Fast.
I’v e been trying for 35 years. I can play Mood For A Day and Surface Tension and
Long Distance Runaround but when I play “Clap” I suck…just can’t get my hands to go
as fast as he does. Makes me Cry!
September 18, 2011 - 3:18 pm
One of the greatest players of all time.
September 18, 2011 - 4:12 pm
Hi Steve, I got to play the beginning of Close to the Edge to you over the phone when I played bass with Jeff Zudec in his Yes tribute band “Fragile”. (the American one) Thanks for putting these video clips on youtube. Most enjoyable to say the least.
September 18, 2011 - 4:14 pm
this is almost just like the movie spinal tap in the sense that he has a crazy english accent and hes just playing crazy stuff and making it sound so easy! its almost comical! in a good way!
September 18, 2011 - 5:05 pm
Awesome!
I will show this to my friend who also plays the guitar. He’s here on YouTube as well actually. Maybe these tips will improve his videos.
September 18, 2011 - 5:57 pm
O.o Speachless……. This is Talent… I want this music to come back
September 18, 2011 - 6:28 pm
Thanks for this Guitar World!! I thought I’d seen every bit of Steve Howe video until this . . . : )
September 18, 2011 - 6:39 pm
@EVWatson1 i hear ya bro
September 18, 2011 - 7:05 pm
Effortless
September 18, 2011 - 8:02 pm
Great stuff! If you can find ‘The Steve Howe Album’ from 1979 or so, you’ll really see his versatility. What would be cool is if he and Mark Knopfler had a ‘picking’ contest!
“Keep having fun” indeed.
