This is actually one of the most disappointing guitar theory books I have ever seen. I was very excited to see an Open E book for slide. What I got was a basement quality guide that so mearly skims the surface that if you ever tuned to open E on a whim you probably already know whats in the book. I am sending mine back.

There are countless techniques to playing the guitar that can create their own unique sound. “101 Razor-Sharp Slide Guitar Licks: Electric Urban/Chicago Style” is a guide to the basic blues slide guitar style. Emphasizing the use of a slider, author Larry McCabe seeks to teach his readers to embrace the electric blues guitar style, made famous by the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Enhanced with a CD to accompany the lessons, “101 Razor-Sharp Slide Guitar Licks” is a fine and recommended acquisition for the learning guitarist.

These slide licks in Open E are delicious and nutritious – they sound great as well as teaching some solid fundamentals that can be used in other tunings – and the book is not stuffed with fluff, it’s lean and mean. I love all of Red Dog’s music books, but this one is my all-time favorite. Makes me wish they would put out a similar book of slide licks in Open G.
Bottom line: if you buy this book, you’ll be getting far more than your money’s worth. On top of the high quality of the book itself and its content, Red Dog Music’s customer service is incredible – they’ll go all out to make sure you’re happy.

The book and DVD are quite basic to say the least but work OK. E tuning gives (to my ear at least), a country sound. Easy to play along with the stuff on the CD.

I received this book a while back, and haven’t had time to get on here and leave a review until now. The book is full of awesome licks and is very straight forward. The cd that comes with it is very cool as well and easy to play along with (plus it’s a full band so you feel like you’re really jamming). My favorite thing about all of the books I’ve ordered from Larry so far have had a handwritten note saying thank you for the purchase by Larry himself. I think that speaks alot for this company. All in all I recommend this book for people looking to learn a new style of guitar.
