id say yes that sounds like a great plan but it can be very hard to balance two instruments. I say you should play guitar for a few more years, then tackle on the bass.

YES you need bass lessons ! I’ve been playing guitar for over 10 years. I thought I’d have no problem picking up a bass and playing as a fill in for my friends metal band – WRONG !
Bass technique is totally different – there are several different techniques actually but learning the slap technique and the different notes on the fret board are important. Maybe you could watch some online tutorials and try to teach yourself before paying even more for lessons. Good luck !

Hi, I recently switched from guitar to bass to be in a band, and although I am still using a plectrum to play the bass, the technique is very different, both for your right and left hands.

Also, if you want to be able to play as most bass players still do, using the two fingers of your right hand, then I would definitely recommend getting a few lessons to get the technique right, or the notes will sound really weak.

A lot of the skills are transferrable, I think, but it would definitely be worth getting a few lessons to get your technique right, then just have lessons every now and again if you feel you are getting stuck with it. I thought the bass would be a lot easier than it was and am very glad I got a teacher to help me out!

yes! you should most definetly take lessons, even if only a couple of them. guitar lessons aren’t really going to help you with bass. although you’d think it’d be simple to just pick up a bass and play, especially if you already play guitar. but the techniques are completely different. the playing is completely different, the way you hold your hands on the fret boad is different. it would really help a lot to take some lessons, even if you just need to learn the techniques. then i would recommend that after you’ve been playing for a while and have a feel for the bass, go back and take a couple lessons on slapping and popping. do not try and use youtube or something to learn how to slap and pop. its much to difficult and lessons would help so much for that.
