I’ve been playing bass for about 6 years now, and I can sweep, and tap, and do all that stuff, but I find slap and pop really really hard, I can’t do it at all actually.
Does anyone have any tips?

Just a comment for others who are new to slap & pop.. while learning I’d find it frustrating that after a while my popping fingertips would be so tender that I had to stop practice for the day.. but I’ve discovered that you can wrap a small band-aid (I guess tape would work too) around the fingertip and continue practicing for the rest of the day before playing with bare fingertips again the next day. Its not too uncomfortable and actually makes it easier to create a forceful pop

@rahooligan Yup, this is another good technique. To be honest, I don’t think it matters “how” you mute, just as long as you are comfortable with it…

@djdiscomikki Hello there! Yes, the hand mostly stays in the same shape. This really is just a case of practising hard (I remember having that problem as well) and it will come eventually! Stick with it!

Hi mate, your tutorials are wicked! I started playing bass today after buying my mates old bass. I play guitar so have ok movement in my left (fretting) hand, but just having trouble getting rhythm with slapping and popping. I wouldnt say Im a complete beginner to it as Ive messed around slapping and popping (badly) on my mates bass, but Im having trouble slapping then getting my index finger under the string straight away to pop it, should I keep my hand in one shape all the time to help this?
